Diversity Equity & Inclusion

Diversity at MHA

Our commitment to diversity allows employees to bring their whole self to work, build their careers and meet the needs of our clients. Diversity is one of our strengths which provides an innovative environment and brings together the ideas and perspectives of different groups.

We recognize that the diversity of our employees-in thought, race, national origin, ethnicity, culture, age, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, disability, socioeconomic status, religion, marital status, veteran status, and style-makes us a stronger company.

Our Mission

We work hard to develop the diverse talents of all our staff so that all people in the MHA family can reach their fullest potential. MHA believes that in these changing times it is essential that we communicate and demonstrate to our employees acceptance, respect, and integrity. Our standard is to have honest conversations and transparency. The result is a more productive and engaging culture for all our staff and all our clients.

CEO, Andrew O’Grady on MHA’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative

I have always believed there is no limit to how great MHA can be, especially when our staff feel free to bring their full, unique, and authentic selves to work every day - sharing their ideas and passions in ways that enrich our culture, bring value to our clients, strengthen our communities, and drive the agency’s success.

We are experiencing very interesting times that demand seamless, agile thinking; new combinations of skills and experiences; and a higher level of collaboration. MHA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is a strategic imperative and crucial to our ability to address the challenges that matter most to our Dutchess County community.

We know that a diverse workforce benefits us all: inclusive, diverse teams produce more innovative ideas, increase creativity, and are more productive. In other words, when we draw strength from our differences, we are all better able to serve the people we work with, and we are stronger together.

MHA’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion strategy is focused on two main areas:

  • Our Workforce priority is to assure the demographics of our workforce mirror the demographics of the people we serve.
  • Our Workplace priorities are focused on creating a culture of belonging and inclusion, expanding the horizons of everyone and including all our staff.

These priorities are embraced by our leaders, who accept and expect inclusion and diversity to be woven throughout all we do.

As an agency we have a long history of being a leader in the workplace inclusion environment. We have won two Poughkeepsie Journal workplace inclusion awards and we are now formalizing what we have already been engaged in for so many years.

By working together to advance diversity and inclusion, we have a significant opportunity to leave this agency stronger than we found it. We will continue to meet the needs of the people we serve with dignity and respect, and we will be much more culturally aware and knowledgeable as we continue to shine a spotlight on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
