The Living Room at Mel’s Place
The Living Room at Mel’s Place provides a safe haven, hot food, showers, and more to individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless and struggle with mental health and/or substance abuse. MHADC staff members offer support including referrals for housing and employment and help with addiction and health benefits. Representatives of the Veteran’s Administration visit once a week to assist vets with benefits and services. No appointments are needed.
Mel’s Place is at the Family Partnership Center, 29 North Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie.
New for 2017: Mel’s Place is now open 365 days a year from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Vernae Johnson at 845-473-2500.
MHADC manages a small number of apartments for individuals with a serious, diagnosed mental illness. The program includes additional care management and assists clients in developing the skills to live independently. Currently, we have 16 apartments including five reserved for 18-25 year olds. Rent is 33 percent of monthly income. For details, contact Department Manager Michael Napolitano at 845-473-2500, ext. 3005.
