The Living Room at Mel’s Place
Named for the late Mel Garrett, read more about our dear friend and co-worker here. Mel’s Place is a safe haven with hot food, showers, and more for individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless and struggle with mental health and/or substance abuse. Staff members offer a variety of support including housing referrals. The Living Room is open weekdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Vernae Johnson or phone 845-473-2500.
MHADC manages a small number of apartments for individuals with a serious, diagnosed mental illness. The program includes additional care management and assists clients in developing the skills to live independently. Currently, we have 16 apartments including five reserved for 18-25 year olds.
