As Executive Director of MHA Dutchess, I wanted to express the pride I feel working in such an extraordinary agency with some of the brightest and most caring people I have ever met. The employees at this agency work very hard every day. They do it because it is their passion. They do it because they are able to go home each day knowing that they made a positive difference in the life of someone else. In serving over 5,000 people in Dutchess County each year, this agency and the fine people who work here are truly impacting this community in a positive way.

Many times people ask me how they could help assure that the services and support we provide in this community will be sustained for years to come.

This past weekend my family held a 50th wedding anniversary party for my parents. My mother and father made it clear that they did not want gifts. Instead they asked that the guests consider donating to Mel’s Place. Mel’s Place is our homeless daytime shelter. Each person that donated received a letter acknowledging their donation and my parents also received a letter letting them know that a donation was made in their name. This event raised over $3,500 for our homeless shelter.

If you have ever wondered how you could help this agency please consider this idea. If you will be hosting a party or your workplace will be hosting a party you can turn it into a fund raiser for a worthwhile program in your community.

The staff at this agency are tremendous and the gratitude for these donations has been overwhelming. Kudos to the great work of the MHA Dutchess staff and Kudos to all the people donating to MHA Dutchess in the name of my parents anniversary. Those donations will go a long way in assuring that people have shelter in this sweltering heat and when the temperatures drop to below freezing they have a place to be.

Thank you,

Andrew O’Grady
