Kids on the Block

Do you have a group or class of kids aged 4-12 who could benefit from learning about mental health, breaking down stigma, and connecting to relevant social issues? Do you wish there was a fun and engaging way to teach them?

Kids on the Block brings life-sized puppets to you to enchant kids and teach them healthy life skills, awareness, and mutual understanding.

Workshop Topics

  • Physical and emotional disabilities
  • Bullying, gangs, & safety
  • Handling conflict & forgiveness
  • Cultural differences & respect
  • Substance abuse prevention

What is the program like?

We come to you and bring everything we need for the puppet show! We have a number of pre-rehearsed shows and can usually accommodate the topic you’d like to focus on. Kids laugh and have fun while they learn, and have the opportunity to interact and ask questions around the topic.

How do I participate?

There are two ways to participate: you can bring us to your group, or you can participate as a volunteer as a puppeteer! Volunteering is great for getting to know the community and reinforcing knowledge of the shows’ topics.

Marlene Taylor, MPS,
I am the Education and Training Coordinator at MHA. I teach numerous parenting classes on special topics which help parents and caregivers to better understand and manage behavior challenges for children and teenagers. I also coordinate staff trainings that range from community programs and resources to special topics such as Trauma Informed Care and Narcan training. I love teaching and having the opportunity to bring inspiring and enlightening information to the community and staff. I truly believe information is power.
